Using fiber reactive Procion MX dyes on cotton and other cellulose fibers, you'll learn processes for both immersion dyeing and direct application of dye. You'll also learn a logical approach to color mixing from primary colors and palette development will be discussed. This workshop is ideal for quilters who want to dye their own fabric, surface designers, or anyone who would like to better understand fiber reactive dyes.

Natural Dyes on Cotton by Catharine Ellis
Explore the effective use of natural dyes on cotton fabric. In this workshop you'll use a mordant process based on old printing techniques from India and France. Single dyes and the non-toxic mordants alum and iron will be used to obtain color variations. Using simple shibori resist techniques, you'll complete samples on cotton fabric.

Fabric Brooches by Margaret Couch Cogswell
Using simple hand sewing stitches, embroidery floss, fusable webbing and an iron, you'll learn how to combine and layer scraps of fabric to create beautiful unique brooches! You'll also learn how to finish the brooches with matt board and pin back. Expect to complete at least 2-3 brooches.

Embroidery by Heather Allen-Swarttouw
Learn a wide variety of embroidery stitches and explore alternatives to the standard favorites. On white and black or navy cloth, you'll embroider small samples of your own design and begin to develop a personal stitch vocabulary. These cloth "pages" will then be bound into an Embroidery Sampler Book to use for future reference and ideas.

Using a wide variety of surface design techniques you'll explore taking color out of dyed cloth. Using Thiorea Dioxide (more commonly known as thiox) in a print paste you'll discover the possibilities of removing color from a variety of prepared cloth and/or your own hand dyed. This is a great way to revamp and recharge dyed cloth and explore a reductive way of creating pattern and color.
